Workshop Summary:
Lab Rascals comes to you with a range of exciting, hands-on science workshops and space shows that complement and enhance all key stages of the national curriculum.
Hands-on workshops, stunning visuals, combined with enthusiastic highly educated scientists bring the spark that will inspire and engage the next generation of scientists.
Our Hands-on workshops:
States of Matter (KS1- KS3) Exciting dry ice experiments and “wow “ factor demos. Explore solids, liquids and gases, evaporating, condensing, melting, sublimation and freezing.
Dry Ice Volcanoes (KS1- KS3) These volcanoes are amazing. They rumble before erupting to simulate an earthquake, produce a large gas cloud and lava. Discover plate tectonics, earthquakes, volcanoes and natural disasters.
Polymers (KS1- KS3) Explore polymers, which are found everywhere, from our food, clothes and even slime. Experiment with material properties, man-made & natural materials and create new materials.
Light (KS1- KS3) Discover the energy waves of light from the sun, electrical bulbs and fire. Observe rainbows, prisms, refraction, colour mixing, colourful flames and photosensitive materials.
DNA (KS2- KS3) Discover the code for all living life by making models and extracting DNA. Create an understanding of genetic coding, chromosomes, inheritance and defects.
Planetarium shows:
THE SOLAR SYSTEM
Let us take you on a journey through our solar system. From the sun at the centre of the solar system to Pluto in the Kuiper Belt. We’ll learn a bit about each planet along the way and even visit some moons that you may not have seen before. This is a great general space show with lots of “wow” moments!
STARS
What are stars? How are they born? Find out the answers to these questions and more in our Stars show. We’ll look at the constellations and listen to some stories around them and fly through a nebula to look at newly forming stars. We’ll also look at our own star, the sun, and learn how important it is to our planet, and all the other planets in our solar system. This show is particularly suited to younger children.
CAPCOM GO!
An immersive, historical documentary that showcases the achievements of the Apollo program and what it took to put the first human on the Moon.
This show introduces a new generation to the immense challenges they overcame and will inspire them to become the explorers, designers, engineers, thinkers and dreamers of the future.
ICE WORLDS
The delicate balance between ice, water and the existence of life has been a topic of scientific inquiry for generations. In travels to the Arctic and Antarctic regions of our planet, we'll examine the ecosystems that exist and thrive there and learn how their survival is connected with our own. Beyond Earth, we'll see how the existence of ice shapes the landscape and the natural systems on other planets and moons in our Solar System.
THE SEVEN WONDERS
Turn back the pages of time and witness the ancient wonders of the world as they appeared thousands of years ago. Explore the Great Pyramid, stand in the shadow of the towering Colossus and experience the rest of the world's Seven Wonders. We will investigate the theories of how these wonders were created, and get a glimpse of some of the universe's greatest wonders. Winner of four Telly Awards and two Communicator Awards. Narrated by Sean Bean, of The Lord of the Rings films.
